Heath Blackgrove
I have been racing since I was 11 and have since won 12 New Zealand National titles in the road, track and time trial, throughout most of the age groups, starting with the Under 17 Time Trial in 1996. These have also included 2 back to back National Elite Road Race Championships and an Elite Time Trial Championships.
These titles have led to representing NZ on numerous occasions over the years on both the track and the road. The highlights of these have been 2 World Track Championships, U23 World Road Championships, the Commonwealth Games for the Track and Time Trial, and the Olympic Games in Athens for the Road Race and Time Trial.
Before coming to the US I had three years racing all over Europe for Belgium based teams. I then raced for three years with the Toyota United Pro Cycling Team in the US, before joining Team Hotel San Jose.
I am an all round rider who is able to win all types of races from criterium’s to time trials, hard one day races to stage races. I am also a valuable team worker and get a lot of satisfaction helping a team mate get a good result.
I love sharing this knowledge and experience Ive built up with everyone from my team mates when racing, to coaching and giving guidance to young riders and beginners getting on the bike for the first time.
Cycling has given me so much that I am always thrilled to help new riders and get more people into our sport, and love seeing them progress, as I have done over the years. I also love seeing people getting into riding a bike, whether it is for getting fit, a form of travel or trying to reduce their carbon footprint.
I look forward to bringing my skills and experience to Team Hotel San Jose/Mellow Johnny’s p/b Gary Fisher-Subaru for hopefully a successful 2010 for myself and the team.
